The year I discovered Sagmeister

Doomtree

Came across Doomtree via the Distraction Pieces podcast from Scroobius Pip with POS and Dessa – (these podcasts continue to deliver, do check them out). Anyhow – Doomtree a Minneapolis hiphop collective, awesome sounds, I would also recommend Dessa’s Parts of Speech album – set here from a session Doomtree recorded at KEXP launching their No Kings album back in 2012.

Laila Sakini

New sounds from Australia – Laila Sakini: ‘DJ, producer, sound designer and event organiser’. Listen, share and download tracks from Soundcloud – this track 10mins in – used by Adam Curtis in his film Bitter Lake – on the iPlayer – sounds very like Burial…hmmm!

Got a Girl

Not too sure exactly Got a Girl is other than quite a cool music collaboration of Mary Winstead and Dan Nakamura in a Serge Gainsbourg style (ish!) – check the link for more details – but anyone ‘connected’ with Scott Pilgrim and Edgar Wright deserves to gets a mention – some stylish photography to boot.

The Go! Team – The Scene Between

So they are back – The Go! Team – a new album out March 23 – been a while… only they can define their sounds as ‘orange tone oscillations…etch a sketch jackknife…a teleprompter for your dreams…’ and it not seem a little over the top! Something for the Monday blues…!

London Live

A promo film from London Live (they run a slightly edited version of this on their channel) is fab…

Looks simple (although the selection process could have taken a while), excellent music choice combined with existing footage, really nails what the London Live (read: the Wake Up London team – Gavin + Mark + Vanessa) team is about – friendly, London and summer…!

(edit: stumbled across the track used via 6 music – The Heat by Jungle…)

Orbital

Orbital back in 1997 at the Phoenix Festival – certainly in my all time top 5 live gigs…

(Such a shame WordPress does not allow decent customisation of Mixcloud links).

JHS pedals

Some rather cute designs for some ‘high quality delay effects units‘ – with also rather exiting(!?) names for some effects pedals…
(left to right – Pollinator, Bun Runner and Pulp ‘n’ Peel)

Turntable Kitchen

Turntable Kitchen: quite a cool site that that ‘connects music and food’… Run by a couple (Matthew and Kasey) from San Francisco… In their words… ‘feature recipes with a focus on local, fresh ingredients, hand-selected ‘Musical Pairings,’ album reviews and musings on our city livin’ and country hoppin’ adventures. Most importantly, we aim to introduce food lovers to music and vice versa’… There is so much on their site that some serious time is needed to be invested… Seen originally via the always awesome Wit & Delight
